Ernie Barnes. You know his work, but maybe not him....

Ernie Barnes is one of the most influential artist ever. There are others also, Rockwell, McFarlane, Frazetta, Takashi Murakami, Leonardo (not the turtle), and the list goes on. But many know his work, or have done work based of of his (some would say subconsciously, either way). Most are familiar with his work from the 70s tv show "Good Times". In the shows opening and often closing credits, his work was displayed and JJ, the oldest son played by Jimmie Walker, was portrayed as an artist who's work on the show was actually Mr. Barnes work as well.  His most popular work for most was a piece called "Sugar Shack" (featured below) and many have taken his elongated style and added it to their on, often mimicking his work.  A few artist, i won't name, have imitated his style for years and made good money and not ever gave him his props. In my on opinion, even the "nfl streets" covers from a few years ago where a play off of his work. Before his death he did a commission piece for Kanye West, also shown below, i guess my main reason for doing this blog is to simply pay a small bit of homage to a Great influence on myself. Ernie Barnes..... a legend. next up will be.... Bill Sienkiewicz.
